The MSCI Manufacturing Summit - 2010

North American manufacturing is under attack. Entire categories of goods are no longer made in this country and manufacturers are extremely hesitant to expand or locate facilities in this country.

Rather than watch our members’ customer base erode, MSCI will be engaging members and their customers across the country in Manufacturing Summit to mobilize, educate and confront the issues.  Although a number of trade associations and groups consider manufacturing-related issues as part of their public policy programs, comparatively few have MSCI’s holistic view of manufacturing and manufacturing policy.

A broad range of issues that create a challenging environment for companies will be covered in our Manufacturing Summits. The list includes:

1.     Increasing budget and trade deficits,

2.     Pending and planned tax increases,

3.     Union sponsored revisions to labor laws and regulations,

4.     Climate change legislation and regulations,

5.     Health care reform,

6.     LIFO accounting revisions and

7.     Chinese currency manipulation and the mercantilist trade practices of our trading partners.

MSCI is committed to energizing its membership around these issues.  Our goal will be to attract politicians, eager to be seen in this election year, individuals who work for MSCI member companies and interested people from their customers.

Presentations will cover:

·         The environment of free enterprise created in North America over the last 200 years

·         The factors that have eroded the strength of manufacturing

·         The inseparable linkage between MSCI members and the health of manufacturing

·         Specific threats to manufacturing today, and

·         What we all can do about these threats.

Speakers at these events will be top-notch experts provided by the MSCI national organization along with at least one outstanding local speaker who can illustrate how the issues facing manufacturing have impacted the local area.

The typical meeting will take no longer than 1½ hours, with brisk, to-the-point presentations and time for audience discussion.
