Peter Navarro, Ph.D., is a business professor at the University of California-Irvine and the author of The Well-Timed Strategy: Managing the Business Cycle for Competitive Advantage and The Coming China Wars: Where They Will be Fought, How They Can be Won. His investment book, If It's Raining in Brazil, Buy Starbucks and his audio lecture course "Big Picture Investing: How, When, and Why the Stock Market Moves" have both been bestsellers.

Navarro's "Big Picture Investor" newsletter appears weekly on his website. His work has appeared in a wide range of leading publications, including Business Week, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, and Sloan Management Review.

Dr. Navarro holds a B.A. from Tufts University and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard. 

 
 
 

Peter Morici, Ph.D., is a professor of International Business at the University of Maryland. Prior to joining the University, he served as Director of Economics at the U.S. International Trade Commission.

An acknowledged expert on international economics and industrial policy, he has advised many leading corporations and governments regarding trade and regulatory issues. He serves on the Reuters macroeconomic forecasting panel. His views are frequently featured on CNN, Reuters Financial Network, and the BBC to name a few.

He is the author of 18 books and monographs including Reconciling Trade and the Environment in the World Trade Organization, The Trade Deficit: Where Does It Come From and What Does It Do; and Free Trade in the Americas, to name a few.

Dr. Morici received his Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York at Albany.

 
 
 

Martin A. Regalia, Ph.D., is senior vice president for economic and tax policy and chief economist of the United States Chamber of Commerce.

Regalia has served as a principal analyst in the Fiscal Analysis Division at the Congressional Budget Office, as an economist for the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System in both the Banking and Capital Markets Sections, and as a financial economist for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Dr. Regalia appears on national television news and debate programs, testifies before congressional committees, authors articles and publications on a variety of topics.

Regalia earned a bachelor's degree with honors in economics from the University of Santa Clara as well as a master's in economics and a Ph.D. in monetary economics from the University of Wisconsin.



 
 

William Strauss is a senior economist and economic advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He analyzes the current performance of both the Midwest economy and the manufacturing sector for use in monetary policy. Strauss was an adjunct faculty member at both Loyola University of Chicago and Webster University in Chicago. Strauss has been quoted in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Business Week, The Economist, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago Business, to name a few.

Strauss received a bachelor’s degree in economics and geography from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a master’s degree in economics from Northwestern University. 

 
 
 

Called both a philosopher and the smartest man in the Senate, Senator John Sununu (R-NH) followed his father’s footsteps into political office and served as the youngest member of the United States Senate. Before entering public service, Sununu worked in the then emerging high-tech field as an engineer and a small-businessman. He served on Senate committees such as Commerce, Finance, Banking, and Foreign Relations. Known for his fiscally conservative views and work to reform the regulation of financial institutions, Sununu currently serves as one of five panel members responsible for the oversight of TARP funds and is writing a report on regulatory reform, mortgage issuance, and insurance regulation. In 2001, he was named to be vice chairman of the Budget Committee. During his term in the Senate, he passed legislation to reform financial giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that changed the regulatory structure. He negotiated the internet tax ban and fought for the addition of civil liberties into the PATRIOT act.

 

Senator Sununu holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard. 
 
 
 

James Sweeney is a director in Credit Suisse’s Global Strategy Team which is part of Fixed Income Research. He joined the team in 2000 and is now based in New York. In this position, Mr. Sweeney is responsible for tracking global growth and linkages among asset markets in order to contribute to the Firm’s asset allocation views.

Sweeney earned a MS in Economics from the London School of Economics and a B.S. magna cum laude from Florida State University.

   
Dennis DesRosiers 

Dennis DesRosiers is president of DesRosiers Automotive Consultants, Inc. Since starting his consulting company in 1985, Dennis has become  the “go-to-guy” for interpretive insights into the Canadian and U.S. automotive industry and is considered by the automotive industry as one of North America’s leading analysts. His thinking is sought not only by automotive executives throughout the supply chain but also by government policy makers and the media.

He has been a leading innovator in discovering the internal algorithms that drive the North American automotive industries from the OE level through to the traditional aftermarket. Through his ability to identify, analyze and interpret the paradigms within the automotive sector, he has become a leader in identifying emerging trends. 

 
 
Parks Dodd, Ph.D. 

Parks Dodd, Ph.D., is president of Aluminomics, LLC and an economist and consultant focused on industrial markets, in particular commodity product and other basic materials industries. In addition to managing his own businesses, he is the senior aluminum consultant in North America for CRU International. He is also an adjunct associate professor in the School of Economics at Georgia Tech, where he teaches courses in basic and applied economics to engineering and other technical students.

Previously, he was director of Strategic Planning and chief economist at Alumax where he was responsible for all aluminum industry fundamental analysis and business research. Earlier in his career, he was a regional manager for the F.W. Dodge division of McGraw-Hill, was a managing consultant with Data Resources (DRI) and was also a product manager for Chase Econometrics, a unit of the old Chase Manhattan Bank.

Dr. Dodd graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Management and holds an MBA and Ph.D. in Economics from Georgia State University. 

 
 
Gerald M. Howard 

Gerald M. Howard is president and chief operating officer of the National Association of Home Builders and has over 20 years of association experience and a lifetime in the housing industry. He began his association career at the National Association of Realtors, where he served as a legislative analyst for tax issues. He served as the chief lobbyist for the National Council of State Housing Agencies where he was instrumental in the development of the low-income housing tax credit as part of the Tax Reform Act of 1986.  Before embarking on his association career, Jerry practiced real estate law in South Carolina. His exposure to the housing industry has literally encompassed a lifetime; Jerry grew up working in a variety of roles for his father, a developer.

Jerry earned a bachelor of arts from the University of Vermont and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina. 

 
 
Eli S. Lustgarten 

Eli S. Lustgarten is president of ESL Consultants LLC and senior vice president and senior analyst, Longbow Research. Previously, he was director of institutional equity research of JB Hanauer & Company. Lustgarten is responsible for the analysis of the industrial manufacturing and technology sectors of the economy.

Eli has been widely recognized by his peers, having been elected to
the Institutional Investor All-American Research Team for more than 20 years. He has also been recognized six times by the Wall Street Journal All-Star Analyst poll.

Lustgarten received a BSEE from the Polytechnical Institute of Brooklyn, a MSEE from the University of Pennsylvania, and a MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School. 

 
 
 James McAleese

James McAleese, founder of McAleese & Associates, P.C., a Government Contracts law practice. Prior to founding the firm in 1992, Mr. McAleese was a practicing attorney in government contracts law, based in Washington, D.C.

Jim holds leadership Board positions in several professional organizations, all of which vigorously support the defense and intelligence interests of the United States, including the Navy League, the National Capital Council, the National Defense Industrial Association, to name a few.

Jim earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international relations from Case Western Reserve University and both a juris doctorate and a master’s of law in government procurement from George Washington University National Law Center. 

 
 
Joseph McGuire

Joseph McGuire is president of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers since 1999 and serves as its chief executive. Prior to joining AHAM, McGuire was director of legislative and regulatory affairs for AlliedSignal, Inc. (now Honeywell). Previously, he served as senior vice president with the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute. He also held positions with the National Association of Home Builders, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Energy Research and Development Administration.

McGuire received a bachelor’s degree in political science from
St. John Fisher College and a master’s degree in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He serves on the board of the American National Standards Institute, chaired the Council of Manufacturing Associations as was a member of the National Association of Manufacturers’ Board of Directors. He is current chair of the ASAE Key Industry Advisory Committee and is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Committee of 100.

 
 
Markus A. Moll 

Markus A. Moll has been managing director and senior market analyst with SMR – Steel & Metals Market Research of Ehrwald, Austria since 1994.

Moll provides market intelligence to clients in the specialty steel industry in Europe, the United States and Asia. He spent five years as a market analyst with a German market research firm that emphasized the stainless steel long products and nickel alloy sectors. Moll is a mechanical engineer and earned his master’s degree in business economics from the University of Innsbruck. 

 
 
William D. Peluchiwski 

William D. Peluchiwski is managing director at Houlihan Lokey. He leads the firm’s Basic Industrial Group, in particular its efforts in the metals sector, automotive parts, chemicals, plastics and packaging. He specializes in advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, private placements of debt as well as equity and financial restructuring.

Mr. Peluchiwski received a bachelor’s of science degree in finance and accounting from the University of Illinois and a MBA in finance and marketing from University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business. Bill is a Certified Public Accountant, a Chartered Financial Analyst and is licensed with the NASD as a General Securities Registered Representative. 

 
 
Loren C. Scott, Ph.D. 

Loren C. Scott, Ph.D., is president and founder of Loren C. Scott & Associates, Inc. and professor emeritus of Economics at Louisiana State University. He was named the Freeport-McMoran endowed Chair of Economics and received seven awards for outstanding
classroom teaching.

Dr. Scott is a co-developer of the Louisiana econometric model which provides annual forecasts of the Louisiana economy and is the author of over 75 articles and technical reports. He is an energy specialist on the National Business Economic Issues Council to discuss issues of state, national and international interest and has been interviewed on MSNBC, CNBC and Bloomberg TV and his work has been cited in the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times to name a few. 

 
 
Kenneth D. Simonson 

Kenneth D. Simonson has been chief economist for the Associated General Contractors of America since 2001. He has 35 years experience analyzing, advocating and communicating about economic and tax issues, including 13 years as vice president and chief economist of the American Trucking Association. He also worked on the President’s Commission on Industrial Competitiveness and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Ken was appointed to the Blue Ribbon Panel of experts advising the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission.  Ken is a board member of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) and is author of “Digging into Construction Data.” He has co-chaired the Tax Economists Forum and is vice president of Community Tax Aid.  Simonson has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago in economics and a master’s degree in economics from Northwestern University.

 
 
John F. Walsh 

John F. Walsh, with more than 35 years experience in aerospace, started his own consulting service in 1993 which specializes in forecasting the commercial aviation markets and the identification of new business opportunities in all major segments of the aerospace Industry. A variety of analytical tools and techniques have been developed to assist in the prediction of the major turning points in the marketplace as well as the future direction of individual aerospace programs.

John has been interviewed on The Nightly Business Report (PBS Television) and the BBC. His press includes articles from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today,  to name a few.  He is a member of the Executive Council for Air Transportation Research International Forum (ATRIF) and is a past president of that organization. He is also a member of the Committee on Aviation Economics and Forecasting for the Transportation Research Board. He is the aerospace member for the Conference of Business Economists. A graduate of Manhattan College, Columbia University, and UCLA, he holds master degrees in civil engineering and business administration.
