U.S. Trade News: Section 232 Derivatives Challenge Succeeds While Commerce Secretary Says Penalties Saved Jobs

 

  • As MetalMiner reported, the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled in favor of a plaintiff who contested the Trump administration’s Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum derivatives. The court said the former president went “outside of delegated authority.” It awarded summary judgment to the plaintiff. Read more here.   • Meanwhile, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo once again spoke favorably about the Trump administration Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs. As Canada’s Financial Post reported, Secretary Raimondo said the penalties have “helped save American jobs in steel and aluminum industries.” She added, “We have to level the playing field … China’s actions are uncompetitive, coercive, underhanded — they’ve proven they’ll do whatever it takes.” Read more about Secretary Raimondo’s past comments on this issue here.
