Industry Intelligence. That’s The MSCI Advantage.

Every four years, I’m glued to the television to catch up on the Winter Olympics. My particular obsession is curling. I’ve participated in my fair share of bonspiels (that’s just the name for a curling tournament) and I can appreciate the precision with which these athletes can hurl 44 pounds of granite down more than 100 feet of ice.

Like most Olympic sports, it’s not just practice that helps athletes get to the top of their game. In curling, on-ice decision making doesn’t just come from past experience and muscle memory. It is bolstered in real-time by data that includes stopwatch readings and observations about current ice conditions.

Whether you’re a world class athlete or a business leader, data is a key ingredient for success. And for businesses in the industrial metals industry, MSCI has you covered.

Through our Metals Activity Report, Momentum Monitors, Metals Tendencies Report, Economic Opportunity and Risk Tracker, and other research products, we provide industry intelligence that is built on millions of data points and decades of experience.

Knowledge To Guide Strategies For Growth

Our industry intelligence offerings fall under two categories: data Subscriptions and research and reports. Data subscriptions include:

  • Metals Activity Reports (MAR): Monthly report on service center shipments and inventory data with a stellar, 40-year record of accuracy and reliability.
  • Momentum Monitors: Quarterly predictions about turning points in demand for the 10 vertical markets of most interest to MSCI members.
  • Metals Tendencies Reports: Monthly summary of market trends reflecting the collective opinion of service center executives.
  • Economic Opportunity and Risk Tracker: Semi-monthly snapshot of the U.S. economy based on the collective evaluation of high-frequency and alternative indicators.

The MAR is offered to members and non-members, but members receive a significant discount. Members who submit their data to MAR get early access to the results, along with exclusive forecasts of future shipments.

MSCI Metals Tendencies Reports always have been free with membership. We now also provide Momentum Monitors and the Economic Opportunity and Risk Tracker for free to all members, an offer that represents a $12,500 annual savings for anyone who previously subscribed to all of these reports. Like the MAR, these three products provide actionable intelligence to help metals service centers, producers, and others in the metals value chain strategize for growth.

As a complement to our data subscriptions, we also offer research and reports that spotlight key intelligence and trends from across the industrial metals industry. For example, our 2021 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Survey was the first-ever benchmarking  for our sector’s progress on DEI. It’s our own report card for growth. We also regularly conduct compensation surveys and other research that help guide industry best practices.

Industry Intelligence More Important in 2022 and Beyond

According to a September 2020 survey by Teradata, 90 percent of global business leaders say the importance of data within organizations has skyrocketed in recent years.

Industry intelligence is more important than ever. In fact, we believe data can help our members address some of the most pressing challenges facing our industry, including supply chain disruptions and worker shortages.

With exclusive industry data and research on the latest issues and trends facing the industrial metals industry, MSCI helps members keep their fingers on the pulse of what’s happening in their business and throughout the world. Learn more about our products, but stay tuned, too. You won’t have to wait for the next Olympics to see more of what we have in store for our industry intelligence products.
