Carbon Steel Definition

 

Steel is commonly considered to be carbon steel when the following is specified:

  • Manganese does not exceed 1.65%
  • Silicon- specified maximum does not exceed 0.60%
  • When no minimum content is specified or required for any alloying elements such as aluminum, chromium, columbium, molybdenum, nickel, vanadium, or any other element added to obtain a desired alloying effect
