United States, Canada Take Aim At Various Steel Products From China, Taiwan

On January 18, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) announced a decision to keep in place existing antidumping and countervailing duty orders on forged steel fittings from China, Italy, and Taiwan.

The ITC said removing the penalties “would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.” The action came under the five-year sunset review process that is required by federal law. The ITC’s forthcoming report on this matter will contain background on how the commission arrived at its decision. That report will be available at this link by February 23, 2024.

Earlier in the week, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) initiated a review of its finding from February 2019 regarding the dumping of corrosion-resistant steel sheet from China, Taiwan, India, and South Korea. The CITT said that, no later than June 13, 2024, the Canada Border Services Agency will determine if there is a likelihood of resumed or continued dumping and, in the event of a positive determination, no later than November 20, 2024 the CITT will determine whether the continued or resumed dumping is likely to result in injury to the domestic industry.
