Toby Mack, President & CEO, Energy Equipment and Infrastructure Alliance (EEIA) will join Bob Weidner, MSCI President & CEO to role play a hypothetical scenario linking the current conflict in the Middle East to U.S. energy policy. In our first-ever “role playing” scenario planning webinar, Toby will reflect upon the following hypothetical situations:
January 2024: As war continues between Israel and Gaza, the Middle East is rocked by a missile attack that destroys a Greek-flagged oil tanker at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz — through which about a fifth of the world’s total oil consumption passes every day.
The missile was fired from Iranian territory, and a previously unknown splinter group takes credit, citing the plight of Palestinians in Gaza. However, intelligence reports indicate the Iranian state is complicit. The splinter group claims it has a large missile arsenal and will close the Strait to further oil and gas shipments until Israel halts its war in Gaza. A second vessel is destroyed the next day.
The Brent oil benchmark surges to $325 per barrel, and LNG prices soar. Far from a “rally around the flag” effect, these developments inflame U.S. domestic political divisions, with some saying the U.S. should stop supporting Israel, and others calling for war with Iran.
Please join us for this engaging hypothetical case study analysis, which will bridge Geopolitics, global and domestic energy policies, and industrial metals.
