Zekelman Industries
Executive Vice President of Procurement
Michael is a graduate of The University of Cincinnati. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a major in Accounting in 1977. In 1981 he received his Master’s degree from Xavier University with a major in Business Management. Michael’s professional career began at Keebler Corporation as a Cost Analyst while attending UC. Upon graduation he joined Owens Illinois as a Plant Account. In 1979 he began working for General Electric in the Aircraft Engines division. During his 27-year career at GE he held positions in Finance, Product Support and Purchasing. It was in Purchasing that Michael spent the majority of his career (20 years) and managed the purchasing of closed die forgings, rings, machine parts, bar product and sheet. Michael focused on cost reductions and became very involved in lean production. He taught more than 30 classes on lean manufacturing, speed, and process mapping. He was certified as a Green Belt and holds 3 patents. In 2006 Michael joined John Maneely/JMC/Zekelman Industries. Currently he is the Executive Vice President of Procurement and oversees the steel, scrap, transportation, production planning and MRO. His focus has been on reducing lead times, standardization and lowering cost. He was instrumental in the implementation of Transportation Management System (to expedite shipping time and reduce cost). In addition, he worked with suppliers and developed a process that would reduce the lead time of coil production. Michael is always looking for ways to improve the process and reduce cost while maintaining the integrity of the product. Michael resides in Cincinnati, OH with his wife, 3 children and 5 grandchildren. He has enjoyed volunteering in his children’s sports programs as a coach for basketball, baseball and soccer.
