Global News Of Note: Canada Suspends Trade Deal With India

- According to Reuters, Canada and India have suspended talks on a proposed trade treaty. The news comes three months after the countries said they wanted to finalize an initial agreement this year. An unnamed government official told Reuters, “Trade negotiations are long, complex processes. And we’ve paused to take stock of where we are,” but did not offer more detail. Sanjay Kumar Verma, India’s envoy to Canada, said Canadian officials did not explain their reasons for the pause.
- The United Kingdom (UK) has opted to keep in place anti-dumping and countervailing measures on imports of hot rolled flat and coil steel from Brazil, China, Iran, and Russia. The penalties for Chinese products will be kept at existing rates until April 7, 2027 while the anti-dumping measures on imports from Brazil, Iran, and Russia will be kept at the existing rates until October 7, 2027. - As Bloomberg reported, the Chinese government announced last week that it has intensified measures aimed at stimulating the country’s still-struggling economy. Specifically, the country’s central bank will reduce foreign currency reserve requirements on banks while the government will provide new relief for homebuyer and parents.
