Global News Of Note: Industrial Production, Steel Output Rises In China
What happens abroad impacts MSCI members in North America. Here is the latest economic, trade, and other policy news of note for the last week:
- Steel output in China increased 4.1 percent from 92.78 million tons in April 2022 to 96.61 million tons in May 2022. Average daily output was 3.12 million tons last month, the highest level in almost a year and up from 3.09 million tons in April.
- Total industrial production in China increased 0.7 percent in May after falling 2.9 percent in April. Retail sales in the country were down 6.7 percent between May 2021 and May 2022, however. It was the third straight month of contraction in retail sales, according a report by Agence France-Presse.
