Help Tackle The Workforce Shortage By Asking Congress To Expand Pell Grants
Thousands of community and technical colleges and non-profit career and technical institutions are working to meet the challenges of providing affordable and accessible education and training programs that meet the demands of the 21st century workforce. As part of a cross-industry effort, the National Skills Coalition (NSC) is advocating for the expansion of Pell Grants to short-term career-oriented programs for more than a decade.
Congress currently is discussing including this expansion in bipartisan competitiveness legislation. Employers can help the NSC’s efforts by signing this letter in support of Pell Grant expansion. Pell grant expansion would enable working adults who need to quickly re-skill for in-demand careers in the wake of the restructured labor market and economic displacement from COVID-19.
Expansion also would help the working people most affected by the pandemic—women, people of color, and those without a college degree—and would help industries begin to rebuild a pipeline of trained workers for small and medium businesses.
