Manufacturing Day Is This Week, But Is Celebrated All Month

The Manufacturing Institute, the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) workforce development and education partner, has invited MSCI member companies to participate in MFG Day 2022.

The institute’s kick-off event is set for October 7, 2022, but MFG Day is celebrated throughout the month of October so there is still time to plan an event.

MFG Day helps showcase the reality of modern manufacturing careers to young people nationwide by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the country to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders.

Past events have ranged from open houses with tours to expos, job fairs, and roundtable discussions. Companies also can team up with each other to create a group event. Companies should contact schools or community groups to see if they would be interested in attending an event.

Once an event is scheduled, click here to let NAM know.

The goal of MFG Day is to change common misconceptions and stereotypes about the manufacturing industry, letting participants see for themselves that manufacturing plants are modern, safe workplaces that use the most technologically advanced processes to create all kinds of crucial goods.

Manufacturers will need to fill about four million jobs by 2030, but right now more than half of those jobs are projected to be unfilled because there are not enough workers with the right skills. That shortage could cost the U.S. economy up to $1 trillion. MFG Day is an important part of solving the industry’s workforce gap.

The Manufacturing Institute has a variety of resources available to help companies plan and execute their MFG Day event this year. You can find them at www.creatorswanted.org/resources.
