MSCI, Allies Ask For More Information On DOL Warehousing and Logistics Worker Initiative
With the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors and more than a dozen other trade associations, MSCI has sent a letter to U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) officials requesting a meeting to discuss their rationale and supporting data for the recently announced Warehousing and Logistics Worker Initiative.
As Connecting the Dots reported last month, this initiative aims to protect the wages and workplace rights of delivery drivers, truck drivers, and other employees by taking additional enforcement measures. The DOL cited a combination of low wages and widespread use of contract staff as their reasons for the development of the initiative.
The letter noted the signatories disagree with that contention. It requested that the DOL share credible information that employers took advantage of their associates during the pandemic.
The letter also advised, “[I]f the available information shows that the overwhelming number of employers did not and do not deny benefits or engage in any of the inappropriate behavior your initiative describes, as we believe to be the case, we ask that you share that information with the public.”
