New York City Drops Vaccine Mandate, But What Are Other Places Doing?
As Politico reported, state and local governments are beginning to overturn the private sector COVID-19 vaccine mandates that they had put into place to help address the pandemic.
That movement includes New York City, which has been the epicenter of virus as several points in the pandemic. Last week, city health officials voted unanimously to end the first-in-the-nation private-sector mandate that former Mayor Bill de Blasio had put into place 10 months ago. Current Mayor Eric Adams had pledged in September to end the requirements. The city’s requirement for municipal employees remained in place.
New York state Judge Ralph Porzio also ruled last week that the city must rehire a group of sanitation workers it fired in February for refusing to get vaccinated. The city also must give those workers back pay.
