Surface condition depends on how the material was processed at a mill.

Finish designations refer to final mill process steps

Examples of common sheet and strip finishes

• Sheet #2D Finish: Cold-rolled, dull finish
• Sheet #2B Finish: Cold-rolled, matte finish
• #3 and #4 Finish: Cold-rolled, mechanically polished
• #8 Finish: cold-rolled, mirror polish
