U.S. Energy Department Wants Private Sector Input On Curbing Industrial Emissions
The U.S. Department of Energy has released a request for information (RFI) seeking input on the opportunities and challenges for decarbonizing the U.S. industrial sector.
The goal of the RFI is to help the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) better understand how the U.S. manufacturing sector can reduce greenhouse gas emissions while making technologies that will power the clean economy and increase competitiveness on the global stage.
In the RFI, the AMO noted the U.S. steel industry produced about 73 million metric tons of crude steel in 2020, and accounted for an estimated 90 million metric tons of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in the same year. AMO said it is interested in determining what efforts are needed to accelerate the commercial readiness of emerging, net-zero carbon, process technologies for the steel industry, as well as related workforce and community needs.
Responses to this RFI must be submitted electronically to Industrial-Decarbonization-RFI@ee.doe.gov by 5 p.m. ET on February 28, 2022. More information about the RFI is available here.
