United States Easing Travel Restrictions For Vaccinated Individuals
The Biden administration has announced that it will ease restrictions for fully vaccinated international visitors from 33 countries beginning in early November. Importantly for MSCI member company employees, the land border with Canada will remain closed for at least another month despite this change in policy.
In November, travelers coming into the United States must:
- Wear masks on inbound flights;
- Show proof of vaccination before boarding a U.S.-bound airline: and
- Provide a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to departure.
Travelers will not need to quarantine, but will be subject to enhanced contact tracing. Returning Americans who are not vaccinated will need to provide a negative test within one day of departure, and take a test again after arrival. Here is what is still unknown:
- Whether the Biden administration will leave it up to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to determine which vaccines qualify for this policy;
- How the CDC will define “fully vaccinated”; and
- If there will be any exemptions aside from children too young to be vaccinated.
