Coalition For A Democratic Workplace Tell U.S. Lawmakers To Oppose Card Check Provision
On July 11, MSCI’s partners at the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace (CDW) sent a letter to all members of the House of Representatives asking them to oppose an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2022 that “would eliminate workers’ right to secret ballots in union representation elections, infringing on their right to privacy and their right to vote their conscience on whether or not they want to be represented by a union.”
The amendment would replace secret ballot elections in union representation elections with card check.
As the letter explains, “Card check is an unreliable method for determining workers’ wishes on union representation, and it exposes them to potential coercion, intimidation, and harassment by individuals attempting to influence their vote. The secret ballot, NLRB-supervised election process provides necessary safeguards to protect workers and their right to freely vote their conscience.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC) also called attention to the amendment, which ultimately was not included in the legislation. Click here to read the USCC’s letter.
